Sevess Introduction
If you're here, it's probably for one of two reasons - either, A, you're part of my Pathfinder 2e campaign, or B, you showed an interest in reading my worldbuilding. If it's C, none of the above, then, congratulations, you're an anomaly, and let the above serve as context for all that follows!
Sevess is my little passion project that I've been poking at for the better part of two years, named after the world most campaigns will take place in. A blend of high sci-fi concepts and megastructures through the lens of high fantasy.
True to that inspiration, Sevess is a ring world. One of ten that orbit Denshar, a star surrounded so entirely by a dyson sphere that it is, largely blacked out. The star is a lonely one, sitting either in a pocket dimension, or perhaps in a part of the universe so remote that there is simply no other stars visible. All its inhabitants know are Denshar, and the Novem, the light given off by the nine other rings of the Denshar system.
The setting also takes notes from cyberpunk dystopian transhumanism, with an elite class of persons possessing body augments known as arcane installations, and those who have said installations being known as arcane wizards. Similarly to those settings, the augments have a tendency to drive their users mad, pushing them slowly towards paranoia or erasing their empathy over time.
Despite its sci-fi inspirations, none of this is powered through electricity, circuitry, or otherwise. It's all seen through a high medieval fantasy lens - the dyson sphere is one of magical origin and usage, turning solar energy into potentially reality-bending power. The ring worlds are kept stable by runic enchantments etched all throughout their inner workings. The arcane installations are made of precious metals, inscribed with runes and infused with arcane magic.
And if I do my job as a GM correctly, the stories we shall tell in this world will, by and large, not be about that. At least, not directly. It will be about the adventurers living in this world alongside these forces. It will be about your characters, their struggles, their triumphs, and their discoveries about this lonely solar system.
I'm glad you're here to keep it company.
